How to Connect VIDA 2014D to a Volvo Car (DICE & Alternatives)
Once you’ve installed VIDA 2014D using my installer, the next step is to connect the software to your Volvo. This guide will walk you through connecting your diagnostic interface and getting started with vehicle diagnostics.
Compatible Diagnostic Devices
VIDA 2014D supports several types of interfaces:
- Volvo DICE (Diagnostic Interface Communication Equipment)
- Mongoose (preferred alternative for compatibility and reliability)
- VXDIAG / VX Nano (works but may require extra setup)
Author’s note: In my experience, Mongoose devices provide the best balance of reliability, compatibility, and ease of use for VIDA 2014D, especially on Windows 10 and 11.
Driver Installation
- Genuine Volvo DICE → Drivers are installed automatically as part of the VIDA 2014D installation using my installer.
- Mongoose / VX Nano / Other → You will need to manually install the correct drivers provided by the device manufacturer.
- Be aware that some cloned devices may look like a DICE on the outside but are actually Mongoose or VX Nano internally. These require their own drivers.
If you’re not sure what drivers you need, feel free to email me at vidainstallerhelp@gmail.com and I can assist.
Connecting the Device
- Plug in your diagnostic device to the PC and the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
- Check for lights on the device to confirm it’s receiving power and recognized by the PC.
- Launch VIDA 2014D and log in.
- In the top left corner, open the dropdown menu for OBD devices.
- Select the correct interface from the list.
- Choose Read from car and wait for VIDA to retrieve the vehicle’s information.
- Make sure the vehicle’s ignition is at position II (dashboard lights on but engine off).
If the Device Is Not Detected
If VIDA does not detect your interface:
- Confirm the correct drivers are installed.
- Try a different USB port or cable.
- Restart VIDA and the PC.
- Verify that the ignition is at position II.
- If using Mongoose or VX Nano, ensure the drivers match your Windows version (32-bit or 64-bit).
Important Note for VXDIAG / VX Nano Users
VX Nano devices can work well but sometimes require extra configuration. Some versions need you to select “J2534 passthrough” mode or adjust settings in the VX Manager software.
If you need help configuring a VX Nano, contact me and I can provide guidance specific to your device model.
Final Thoughts
With the right interface and drivers, connecting VIDA 2014D to your Volvo is usually quick and easy. My installer takes care of most of the setup work automatically, especially for genuine DICE users.
